4 Veggies That Make Awesome Fries

Veggies That Make Awesome FriesWho could resist a plate of delicious fries? But did you know that you can make healthier fries with the help of some nutritious and tasty vegetables? So if you want to consume fewer potatoes and get more veggies into your diet, check out the four veggies that make awesome fries below to get started.

1. Zucchini

One of the most popular veggies that make awesome fries is zucchini. Bake these, rather than fry them, so start by preheating your oven to 425° and then lining a baking sheet with some aluminum foil. In a shallow bowl, combine breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese. Then whisk a couple of eggs in a separate bowl. After cutting three zucchini into ½” strips, you can then dip them into the egg mix before rolling in the breadcrumb mix. Bake for about 20 minutes, turning once.

2. Green Beans

Heat oil in a fryer until it’s about 375° and combine a pound of trimmed green beans and ½ cup of water in a pan. Bring this to a boil and cook for roughly 4 minutes before draining, transferring to a bowl, and covering with cold water. In a separate bowl, whisk milk and an egg together. And in another bowl, mix breadcrumbs with chili powder, onion powder, and garlic powder. Once you drain your green beans, you can toss them in some flour to coat them before dipping them in the egg and then into the breadcrumbs. Fry them about 2 minutes at a time until crispy.

3. Asparagus

To make asparagus fries, first dampen them with a bit of water. Coat them in flour and then dip into an egg that you whisked. Then roll the asparagus in some breadcrumbs. Refrigerate first, letting them cool so the coating can stick, for about 15 minutes. Then fry them up in some oil for about 2 minutes.

4. Turnips

Try something different by making turnip fries. Preheat your oven to 425° and then line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. After peeling your turnips and cutting them into sticks, you can place them into a bowl and toss them with some vegetable oil. Then mix Parmesan cheese, paprika, salt, and onion powder together so you can coat the turnips with the mix. Bake for about 20 minutes.

There are plenty more veggies that make awesome fries, but you can certainly get started with the ones listed above and then experiment with others until you find your favorites.
