If you don’t have any concrete plans for Labor Day activities, it can feel very tempting to simply slump down into the couch and remain there all day. However, in most cases, that won’t do you any favors. There is so much that you can do on this holiday that it would be a waste to stay in and do nothing.
Of course, we don’t all have a huge budget to spend on Labor Day activities, so it’s important to be realistic. Fortunately, there are tons of great things to do that don’t cost a lot of money, that can be fun for the whole family, and that will get you out of the house.
The following are some fun and affordable Labor Day activities the whole family can enjoy:
Drive-in theaters – there are a few left and if you have one near your home, then it might be time to pile in the car and go watch a show. If not, you might find that a local public park has set up a screen. You can even set up a little outdoor movie theater in your own yard, letting you all enjoy an old favorite in a new setting.
Watch a parade – nearly every large city across the country has a Labor Day parade. It may not be quite as exciting as the Santa Claus parade, but it’s a great time to enjoy some fun and patriotism while supporting the local working community.
Go to the fair – this holiday is a traditional date for county fairs to occur throughout the country. Virtually every home in every state is within a couple hours’ drive of at least one – if not many – fairs happening on that day. It’s a fantastic way to go on rides, watch shoes, eat foods you really wouldn’t have on any other day of the year, play games and simply enjoy time with the family.
Head to a museum – museums can be surprisingly fun, despite the fact that you’re actually learning something while you’re there. There are also many opportunities to visit for free. Select museums have deals with various alumni groups, roadside assistance companies and even banks that grant free entry to their customers.
Go to the beach – as the traditional end to many summer vacations, going to the beach is a great way to squeeze one more day out of the glorious hot weather.
